Cruz attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. He received a Juris Doctorate degree from Western State University College of Law, where he earned the James M. Brower Achievement Award and competed with distinction on the Honors Moot Court team. He has been a Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law by The State Bar of California – Board of Legal Specialization since 2011.

Cruz has practiced Workers’ Compensation Defense Litigation since becoming a licensed attorney in 1991. He has vigorously and enthusiastically represented insurance carriers, third party administrators, and permissibly self-insured employers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims, Labor Code Section 132a Petitions and Serious & Willful Misconduct claims.

He strongly believes that having a great professional relationship and effective communication with his client team / claims professionals, as well as opposing counsels and Judges, are key to achieving success in handling and aggressively litigating cases toward expeditious and beneficial resolutions. His devotion and passion for the practice of workers’ compensation defense, with integrity over the decades, has been a testament to his success as a litigator.

Outside of his law practice, Cruz enjoys spending time with family, watching and waiting for his Minnesota Vikings football team to win a Super Bowl, and collecting, working on and listening to his collection of vintage audio gear.
